3.3 Render Service Transport Compression

Levoy [6] has considered techniques for using a high-end graphics workstation as a rendering server for a low-end workstation in a manner consistent with GLR's approach. Levoy specifically addresses the network transport cost of transporting raw images across a network connecting the workstations. Levoy proposes a polygon-assisted compression scheme to minimize the required network bandwidth.

The approach relies on sending compressed image differences from the render server to the client. Potentially, this technique is applicable to GLR.
